CAPACITY EXTENSION OF THE A10-EAST AND A1 DIEMEN (SAA - Schiphol - Amsterdam - Almere)
With the widening of the road network between Schiphol, Amsterdam and Almere, Rijkswaterstaat has only one goal: better accessibility, smoother traffic flow and shorter and more reliable travelling times.
The extension of the A10-East and the A1 between the Amstel, Watergraafsmeer and Diemen junctions was one of the first projects to come to market. Dura Vermeer, Besix and Cofely as consortium were selected for the job. It is Rijkswaterstaat’s ambition to realise the project with a minimum of (traffic) nuisance for the surrounding area and with a great deal of attention to the safety of employees and road users. The work comprises the construction of roads, erecting noise barriers and engineering structures and installing technical systems.
The capacity extension of A10 East and A1 Diemen is located in a highly urbanised area. This makes Rijkswaterstaat’s ambition extra challenging. In order to reduce the traffic nuisance and the experience of nuisance by road users, a choice was made to have three lanes available in the daytime at all times during the road works. The resulting limited workspace required a creative implementation of the logistics process.
